Basil

Description:
Basil is a annual to perennial herb in the mint family, Basil is grown for its aromatic leaves. Basil is native to India and is widely grown as a kitchen herb. The leaves are used fresh or dried to flavor meats, fish, salads, and sauces. Basil tea is a good stimulant.

Growing:
  • ​annual - tender perennial
  • full sun
  • ​rich moist well draining soil
  • average water
  • harvest: leaves​

Herb Pairing:
Basil pairs well with chicken, eggs, lemon, garlic, olive oil, oregano, thyme, marjoram, onions, tomatoes, chili, pasta, bell peppers and pizza.

How to use?
  • use whole leaves or shred them
  • infused oil or vinegar
  • herb butters

Extras:
Avoid leaves that are drooping or blackened. Store about 2-3 days in damp paper towel or a plastic bag in the refrigerator vegetable crisper.
